Fight Song for Tryouts 2024-2025 School Year

Trying out for the 2024-2025 Ankeny Cheerleading Squad?

See Tryout Information Below!

Tryouts for the 2024-2025 school year will be conducted through a two day tryout process. PRIOR TO ATTENDING TRYOUTS, ALL CHEERLEADING APPLICANTS MUST FILL OUT THE GOOGLE FORM.

Friday, April 26

From 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM we will be a learning the fight song and two new cheers that cheerleading applicants will perform for the judges on Saturday. We will review what Friday and Saturday will look like and what the judges will be looking for and have an open gym style portion to showcase whatever stunting skills cheerleading applicants feel comfortable SAFELY throwing. For those who communicated on the tryout form new to stunting or entry level to stunting, this will be more time to practice fight song and cheers or jumps, and may be asked to spot others on stunting skills being performed. Stunting skills are not directly graded on in the tryout rubric but showcasing stunting skills confidently and correctly may be overviewed for a cheerleading applicant’s overall performance. The judges DO NOT want people to jump into stunting skills they have not thrown or are not comfortable performing. If you are interested in trying new skills, we are hosting an open gym every Thursday at 5:30-6:30 PM leading up to tryouts in the Ankeny High School strength and conditioning room upstairs.

Saturday, April 27

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM will be the official tryout. Cheerleading applicants will be called into the gym in small groups based on a number they will be assigned to perform the fight song then two cheers. They will then showcase a toe touch jump and any standing and running tumbling cheerleading applicants may have. Cheerleading applicants are required to stay the length of the entire tryout to be considered for the squad. After each athlete has been called, we will have a concluding meeting and athletes may leave. Cheerleading applicants’ names will be posted on the Ankeny Cheerleading Facebook and Instagram accounts with who has made what squad by the end of the weekend. If cheerleading applicants have questions about not being placed on a squad or where they were placed on a squad they need to wait 24 hours from posting to reach out to the head coach. Coaches will not be answering tryout questions over the weekend. If an email is sent over the weekend, cheerleading applicants must re-email the coach on Monday for the email to be responded to. Emails regarding tryout placement MUST come from the cheerleading applicant, NOT THE PARENT/GUARDIAN.

What to wear: Cheerleading applicants must wear a plain black t-shirt and black shorts with appropriate athletic shoes to tryouts both days. Hair that touches the shoulders or would go past shoulder length must be pulled back into a tight ponytail behind the middle of the head. Hair may not be falling near or around the face. ALL JEWELRY MUST BE REMOVED PRIOR TO THE START OF TRYOUTS.
