icon Meet Athletic Director Umthun

Welcome to Ankeny High School, Home of the Hawks and Hawkettes!

I am extremely humbled to be given the opportunity to serve the students, parents, staff, and the entire community of Ankeny. I am originally from north central Iowa but moved to Des Moines prior to my freshmen year of high school and attended Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. There I participated in football, track & field and band. These experiences of being a student-athlete is where my passion for what activities bring to the table originated, as well as unknowingly prepared me to embrace the many challenges of being an Activities Director. I attended the University of Northern Iowa after high school, majoring in Physical Education, Health Education, and Athletic Coaching. While attending UNI, I was a member of the UNI Rugby Team for three years and also coached two years of football at NU High. My family is extremely important to me, and they have been extremely supportive of my dreams which I would not be ready for this great challenge without their support. I recently married my wife Morgan this past December of 2019 and she is the rock behind the scenes that supports my endeavors while ensuring we take advantage of the quality time we do get. She is one of the biggest Hawk/Hawkette fans around, embracing the AD lifestyle that comes with a position such as this. Thank you for the support of our Hawks and Hawkettes!
