Hawk Baseball Time Commitments
Baseball in the state of Iowa is played in the summer months of May, June, and July. The varsity schedule consists of 40 regular season games, and a majority of the playing dates are doubleheaders. Varsity and 10th grade doubleheaders start at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. while freshman and junior varsity games usually start at 11:00 a.m. Baseball practices officially start in the first week of May. Players in the sophomore through varsity levels will practice at the AHS baseball field, while the freshman baseball team will share the Northview baseball field with Ankeny Centennial for games and practices. In May, practices will be after school, with those practice times varying based on your team once school is finished for the year. Once official practice begins in May, the teams will practice or play nearly every day during the season. In April, there will be 10 offensive practices that players are expected to attend. Open gyms for baseball players in grades 9-12 are held at Parkview Middle School on Monday and Thursday nights beginning in February and continuing through the end of March. There is no 8th grade school baseball program in Ankeny.
Baseball Open Gym
AHS Baseball open gyms will begin on January 4th at Parkview Middle School. The open gyms will consist of a throwing program as well as time in the cages to hit. Freshman and sophomore players will have an open gym from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and the junior varsity and varsity players will have their open gym from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
