Welcome to Hawkette Golf

Girls Golf at Ankeny High School is a spring sport that is played from approximately the middle of March until the end of May. Our practices are usually held at Otter Creek Golf Course after school, weather permitting. When bad weather occurs, we usually have an indoor practice at Southview or Ankeny High School.  In addition, during March, we traditionally have practices that will cover the basic rules of golf.

We have two different types of competitions throughout the season.  The first is called a “Dual Meet” where our Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV) golfers will play 9 holes and would compete against another schools Varsity and JV teams.  Our Varsity consists of our top 6 golfers and then the remainder of golfers on the team are considered JV.  We are tradionally only allowed to take 6 Varsity golfers and 6 JV golfers to a Dual Meet.  The other type of competition that we have throughout the season is called an “Invitational” during which, several schools, anywhere between 6-10 schools, bring their 6 Varsity golfers and play 18 holes of golf in a tournament style.

We also have a Conference Meet at the end of the season that is Varsity only, along with Regionals, where the top 8 scorers advance to the State Tounament, along with the top two teams.
