Congratulations to the Southview 8th Grade Girls on winning the Large School State Meet Championship in Gilbert on May 15th to close out an undefeated 30-0 season!! The support and depth of this entire team has been phenomenal all year and again proved to be the difference as they were able to take home the state title! Congratulations to all!
Welcome to Ankeny Southview 8th Grade Girls Track!
Welcome to the Ankeny Hawkettes 8th Grade Girls Track website! Track is a sport that will benefit all athletes of all ability levels and no previous track experience is necessary to participate!
There are a wide variety of events available so each athlete can find events suited to her strengths. There are both individual and relay events available at each of the distances. Running events for both sprinters and distance athletes range from the shortest race of 100 meters for sprinters all the way up to the longest race of 1500 meters (almost a mile) for distance girls. Many additional opportunities are available for athletes in hurdling events as well as the throwing (shot put and discus) and jumping (long jump and high jump) events.
8th grade track will provide numerous all-around benefits to the girls. Athletes will learn proper running form and improve their speed. They will also increase their overall strength, fitness and athleticism, and will benefit from the cross training that helps prevent overuse and repetitive injuries. Most importantly, however, the athletes will be part of a successful and positive team environment that thrives on mutual support and respect of each athlete.
Track is a spring sport with practices beginning in early March and with meets beginning in early April and concluding in early May.
There will be eight meets during the season, including some ‘A’ meets, some ‘B’ meets and some ‘A’/’B’ combination meets with the entire squad participating. We conclude the season with the 8th Grade Girls State Track Meet in Ankeny.
Conflicts with other activities can typically be worked out so that athletes can participate in each activity. We encourage our athletes to participate in multiple activities and understand that some athletes may need to have other activities as a priority. We still encourage these athletes to join us and also gain the overall benefits of track and field!
Please contact Coach Luttenegger if you ever have any questions along the way!!
Check the other links on the site for more information about this season and previous seasons.
See you at the track!!

Southview State Meet and Drake Relays Results
Southview Middle School has been open to the Ankeny southside residents since the fall of 2013 and the Ankeny Southview 8th Grade girls track team has had an excellent history of success at the 8th Grade state track meet, including a championship in 2016, and at the Drake Relays where they have twice been the middle school 4×100 relay champions. There have been numerous invitational titles through the years, but more importantly we have seen tremendous growth in athleticism, confidence, teamwork, and pride from hundreds of Hawkette Tracksters regardless of experience or skill level! There is a place for everyone on our team, and we invite you all to join the proud group of girls who have been a part of our Southview Track family. You’ll be thankful you joined the experience!
