2025-2026 Ankeny Cheerleading Tryouts!
ANYONE TRYING OUT FOR ANKENY CHEERLEADING MUST FILL OUT THIS FORM PRIOR TO TRYOUTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A SQUAD: Tryout Form
Tryout Dates and Schedule:
FRIDAY, APRIL 18 / 5PM-6:30PM
- Introduction to the tryout process
- Review a toe touch
- Learning two tryout cheers
- Practice of the fight song
- Warm-up tumbling session
SATURDAY, APRIL 19 / 9AM-End of Tryouts
- Team warm-up
- Number Assignments
- Quick review of the two cheers and fight song
- Individual tryouts (participants will be called individually to perform)
- Applicants may leave after their tryout
What to wear: Cheerleading applicants must wear a plain black t-shirt and black shorts with appropriate athletic shoes to tryouts both days. Hair that touches the shoulders or would go past shoulder length must be pulled back into a tight ponytail behind the middle of the head. Hair may not be falling near or around the face. ALL JEWELRY MUST BE REMOVED PRIOR TO THE START OF TRYOUTS.
Important Dates
Mandatory Virtual Webinar:
Date: Monday, March 31
- Time: 5:00 PM-5:30 PM
- Audience: All tryout participants and their guardians
- Purpose: Provide essential information about the Ankeny Cheerleading program for the 2025-2026 year and the tryout process.
Mandatory Fitting and Team Meeting:
Date: Thursday, April 24
- Fitting Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Just Selected Ankeny Cheerleaders)
- Team Meeting Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Selected Ankeny Cheerleaders + At Least One Guardian)
- Location: Ankeny Commons at Ankeny High School
- Audience: All athletes selected for a squad and at least one guardian
- Purpose: Discuss season details, fundraiser requirements, camp information, practice gear, and more
Open Gym Sessions:
To help you prepare for tryouts, we are offering optional open gym sessions. These are open to all current Ankeny High School students and incoming students, including current 8th graders interested in trying out.
- Dates: Every Thursday from March 13 to April 10
- Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
- Purpose:
- Observe to decide if you want to try out
- Learn and practice skills to show to the judges.

Time Commitment
Ankeny Cheerleaders time commitment varies by squad. Typically, each team will practice twice a week, varying from 1-2 hours, with one game during the fall season, and two games a week during the winter season. Game times can be found on the CIML Website.
The Ankeny Competition Cheer team is composed of the Fall Varsity Football Cheer Squad. In addition to practices and football games, these cheerleaders will also be required to attend 3-4 competitions on the weekends during the fall season.

Meet the Coaches

Kylie Suda (Head Coach)
Coach Kylie was a gymnast and cheerleader throughout her childhood both in club and high school. She then cheered for 4 years at Iowa State on the Coed Squad. After graduation, she began coaching at AHS in 2023!

Caleb (Asst. Varsity Coach)
Coach Caleb began his cheer career at Iowa Central. He cheered there for three years. After graduating from Iowa Central, Caleb volunteered to coach AHS with their Stunt group routine in 2022 and 2023 before joining the coaching staff at AHS in 2024!

Paige (JV Cheer Coach)
Coach Paige cheered throughout high school. After graduating from UNI, Coach Paige began teaching at AHS in 2022 as well as coaching on the cheer squad in 2023!
